About Bhutan
Nestled in the Eastern Himalayas, Bhutan is known for its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and commitment to preserving its environment and traditions. Often referred to as the “Land of the Thunder Dragon,” Bhutan boasts majestic mountains, lush valleys, and ancient monasteries.
Bhutan’s approach to tourism has evolved significantly over the years. In 1974, the country opened its doors to international visitors, guided by the vision of His Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, who emphasized the importance of sustainable development and Gross National Happiness (GNH) over mere economic gain. This philosophy continues to shape Bhutan’s tourism policy today, ensuring that growth is balanced with the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the current monarch, has further championed these ideals, fostering a sense of pride and responsibility among the Bhutanese people to protect their unique way of life.
